Turia Pitt: Pregnancy motivated burns victim to recovery

WHEN Turia Pitt was recovering from the horrific burns she received to 65 per cent of her body in 2011, the baby she is about to give birth to was on her mind.
Six years later, Pitt is just weeks away from meeting the baby boy that got her through the unimaginable trauma her body experienced after she was caught in a grassfire during an ultra-marathon.
The 30-year-old, who will give birth in early December told Confidential she and fiance Michael Hoskin dreamt of having children.

“I think something that’s really important is to have hope for the future and when our hope is extinguished, that's a really demoralising place to be,” she told Confidential. “So I would look forward to the future and that one day Michael and I were going to have a family and for me that was a lot of hope. Its tremendous that the human body can go through so much and I can still have a child, I think that's really cool.”

Pitt said she isn’t at all apprehensive or nervous about giving birth.
“It’s the day I get to meet my son. Like how cool is that. I know on the day there will be periods of intensity and periods of pain but at the end of that I get a baby.
“It should be a typical, normal birth.”
At 32, weeks, Pitt said she has had an “uneventful” pregnancy so far.
“It’s been quite boring really, there hasn’t been anything dramatic that’s happened.”

The ultra-marathon runner was yesterday announced as an ambassador for Avene’s new suncare range.
“After I got burned I did some research and found a treatment centre for burns in France and I went there and they used the Avene product range on me and I started to notice a big improvement in my skin and I’ve used them ever since.”
